What, Why, and How

Why the Gospel?

The Gospel is gloriously Good News, a profound proclamation of Freedom and Life through the Cross, Resurrection, and Ascension of Jesus Christ.

If the Gospel you're hearing is not setting you free from sin, from shame, from fear and failure, and from the pain of your past or the panic of your present, maybe it's not really the Gospel.

The Mission of the Messiah, as foretold by the prophet Isaiah in 61:1 and read from the scroll by Jesus in His first public sermon {Lk. 4}, is to "preach Good News to the poor and afflicted," to "bind up the brokenhearted," to "proclaim liberty for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD'S favor" and "to comfort all who mourn," v. 2.

Jesus said, while "the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have Life-- and have it to the full," John 10:10.

Paul wrote, "It is for Freedom that Christ has set us free." That sounds like an amazing offer, an incredible declaration... what do we do with that? "Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery," Galatians 5:1. Any slavery, anywhere, to anything or anyone other than Christ.

As a finishing thought on Freedom in Jesus he says, "You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love." For "the entire Law is summed up in a single command; 'Love your neighbor as yourself." The word for "neighbor" literally means 'the other.' So,wherever you are and whoever you're with, you are to love the other, those in your periphery, as yourself. Jesus said, you are to "do to others as you would have them do to you."
